Workplace Investigations Week – August 11-15, 2025

This week of FELTG training focuses on conducting administrative investigations in the Federal workplace with an emphasis on employee misconduct, including workplace harassment. Workplace Investigations Week always includes the most up-to-date information on the skills, trends, and cases, including OPM’s regulations on investigative leave.

Monday, August 11: Administrative Investigations: The Substantive Basis

Why investigate? This kick-off day will answer that question, as well as provide attendees with an understanding of discipline law, charges of misconduct, and penalty evidence. It will also cover witness rights and union representation.

Tuesday, August 12: Harassment Investigations

This second day of Workplace Investigations Week focuses on harassment, both EEO and non-EEO. We’ll review how to investigate allegations of harassment and discuss the latest in LGBTQ+ discrimination law. Other topics covered include sexual harassment claims, liability in harassment cases, what to charge in harassment cases, and more.

Wednesday, August 13: Conducting the Investigation, Part I

We begin our two-day dive into functional investigative skills with a review of evidentiary principles, followed by tips and guidelines for preparing for the investigation, plus interviewing strategies and challenges.

Thursday, August 14: Conducting the Investigation, Part II

This day begins with a look at assessing witness credibility by considering plausibility, demeanor, omissions, motive, body language, and more. We’ll also cover acquiring other evidence, medical evidence, and rules for being an effective witness.

Friday, August 15: Writing the Investigative Report

FELTG closes out the week with an in-depth review of how to write an effective report of investigation. We’ll discuss organizing the report, establishing the chronology, as well as report writing style, writing conventions, and more.
